Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from a Bob Baker Marionette Theater show?
When attending one of our shows, you can expect to be swept into a fantasyland and delighted by an average of 100 unique handcrafted puppets in each production. Our shows have a run time of approximately one hour and end with a special surprise… ice cream for everyone! Post-show, guests have a chance to meet ’n greet with puppets, take photos, and enjoy their ice cream at a table in one of our three Puppet Parlors.
How many puppets are at the Theater?
Our puppet family has more than 3,000 members with new additions taking shape all the time. Some of the oldest marionettes have been starring in shows since the 1940s; some of our newest marionettes have been created this year!
What is “Criss-Cross-Applesauce”?
“Criss-Cross-Applesauce” is when you sit on the floor, with your legs crossed. Our floor seats are, quite literally, floor seats (cushions). The floor is the best spot in the house if you’re hoping for a puppet to sit on your lap or wiggle your nose; but sometimes grown-ups may require or prefer a proper chair. If your seat assignment begins with an F, you will be seated on a floor cushion.
I bought Puppet Parlor seats. What does that mean?
Our Puppet Parlors are the three elevated tiled areas at the back left, right, and center of the Theater. They are where we serve ice cream after each show. If your seat assignment begins with a P, you will be seated at one of the chairs at a table. Puppet Parlor seats are a treat for anyone, but they are ideal for guests looking for a little more room. Please note that due to the height of the railing, we don’t recommend these seats for young children.
Are your shows appropriate for a two year old? A six year older? A thirty-five year old? A hundred-and-five year old?
Bob Baker himself used to say that our shows were for those aged “two to toothless.” Everyone of any age is welcome!
Myself or someone in my party has a sensory processing disorder. Can you accommodate?
We try our best to make every experience at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater a magical one. We have foam earplugs and over-the-ear headphones available upon request. Additionally, each season we perform a sensory-friendly version of the current show. Please take a look at our show calendar for specific dates and times.
Do you offer group discounts?

Tell me about the organ!
The Allen Custom GW4 digital organ, nicknamed "Silver Cloud," was donated to the Los Angeles Theater Organ Society in 2017. The console is based on the design of the Brooklyn Paramount Wurlitzer. This organ is owned and maintained by LATOS and has been in residence since 2019 at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater where you can hear it played live by Edward Torres most Friday, Saturday, and Sunday performances.
Can a puppet come to my house? Or school? Or office? Or favorite park??
Yep! Our puppets travel and for over 55 years the Bob Baker Marionettes have been on the road performing anywhere there’s fun to be had! Our touring packages are designed for any size and budget and range from One Man Shows to our recently restored Bob Baker Big Top - a fully-contained mobile marionette theater complete with props and backdrops. All shows feature the enchanting and delightful Bob Baker Marionettes performing a half-hour musical variety extravaganza. More information can be found here.
I have a puppet in need of repairs. Can you fix it?
