About Bernie Shine

Bernie Shine is a magician and mentalist who has been a prolific entertainer since he first appeared on the scene in the 1970s.

Bernie has been described as "reclusive and exclusive," a performer who quietly chooses his venues, doing it in his own unique manner. His magic is like a message in a bottle, a special surprise to those who happen to find him. And we are pleased to announce that you will find him here, at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, on Saturday evening, November 9, 2024.

Shine was a law student when he first started performing regularly at the Close-Up Room at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. The young magician was taken under the wing of some of the more experienced performers, including legends such as Dai Vernon, Francis Carlyle, and Senator Clark Crandall. His iconic Ted Salter caricature that hung on the walls of the Magic Castle is included in the 1988 book The Magic Castle Walls of Fame. His prominence continued to grow, with Shine becoming known as a master of magic and mentalism, delighting audiences across the globe with his mixture of conjuring, card tricks and close-up illusions, and mind-reading and mind-bending miracles. 

In 2013 he performed one of his most famous tricks at the UnCabaret in Los Angeles, borrowing three rings from members of the audience before linking them together in the ultimate finale trick. The rings were safely unlinked before their owners left at the end of the show. In 2017 he performed throughout the summer at the Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills, and in 2022 and 2023 he did multiple shows to sold-out crowds at El Portal Theatre. He appeared in the music video for The Pixies 2019 single “On Graveyard Hill.” He has a large celebrity following, and has been deemed “The Magician to the Stars.”
